Residents of Chechnya report ban to gather wild garlic near Ingush border
In the Achkhoi-Martan District, the authorities have forbidden gathering wild garlic on the territories adjacent to Ingushetia until January 31, reported residents of Chechnya. The ban was introduced on January 1 because of operational activities, reported the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
On September 26, 2018, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov signed the agreement on the border between the republics. The signing of the above border agreement led to mass protests In Ingushetia.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by a source from the Chechen MIA that the law enforcement bodies had got information about the possible appearance of armed militants in the border zone and recalled a shootout in the Sunzha District.
"Usually we gathered wild garlic under Bamut, in the forest in the direction of Arshty (in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia). The wild garlic was always in good demand. But for almost a month people could not gather it because of a special regime introduced in the border area," said Raisa, a local resident.
The season for wild garlic gathering usually starts in late December and lasts until March.
