Kremlin postpones decision on petition calling for Evkurov's resignation

The administration of President Putin has extended the term for the consideration of the demands of Ingush activists, namely, the resignation of the head of Ingushetia, and the cancellation of the border agreement with Chechnya and the transfer of the Prigorodny District. The postponement was explained by the need to study additional documents, Magomed Mutsolgov has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 18, 2019, Ingush activists handed over to the Kremlin the signatures of more than 51,000 residents of the republic to the demand of cancelling the border agreement with Chechnya and the return of the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia to Ingushetia. The collection of signatures to the appeal to Putin was organized during the two-week rally in Magas and stopped because of the actions of members of pro-government structures, the initiators of the appeal to Putin told the "Caucasian Knot".

The signing on September 26 by Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov of the agreement on fixing the Chechen-Ingush border triggered mass protests, the participants of which demanded to bring the border issue to a referendum.

On January 31, the Ingush activists, who had handed over the appeal to the Putin's administration, received a response from the officials. The consideration term of the appeal has been extended for a month, Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the Ingush human rights organization "Mashr" and the blogger of the "Caucasian Knot", has informed.

"The presidential administration has extended the time for the consideration of our appeal by 30 days due to the fact that for an objective and comprehensive consideration of the appeal, they have requested relevant documents and materials," the human rights defender has written in his post.
