Prisoner goes on hunger strike in Armenia
On January 30, Vagarshak Avetisyan, sentenced to life imprisonment on murder charges, declared a hunger strike demanding a reconsideration of his criminal case and a meeting with the head of Armenian Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the "Tert.am" reported on January 31 with reference to inmate's relatives.
The MoJ has confirmed Avetisyan's hunger strike. He is supervised by a doctor, the "Tert.am" informs with reference to Nona Navikyan, the head of the Public Relations Division of the MoJ's Penitentiary Department.
Avetisyan was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of killing a taxi driver in March 2008. He refuses to plead guilty. He held his previous hunger strike in August 2018 and attempted suicide during it, the "news.am" reports.
