Lecture on Armenian history shows Muscovites' growing interest in Caucasus
About fifty people attended a lecture dedicated to the ancient state of Urartu and organized at the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow. It was the first one in a series of lectures "Culture and Arts of the Caucasus". The listeners have noted that a cycle of nine lectures had interested them, as they want to expand their knowledge of the culture and arts of Armenia and Georgia.
The Russians' interest in Southern Caucasus is growing, said Ekaterina Simatova, the lecturer.
The series of lectures on the Caucasus will cover the history and culture of Armenia and Georgia from ancient times, Ms Simatova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, explaining the choice of topics for lectures by her personal interest in Christian arts, as well as the interest of Russian residents in Armenia and Georgia.
"After the lectures, the audience will have even more interest and will want to travel around these countries," she said.
Ekaterina Simatova noted that despite all the political complications, the cultural relationships and the mutual influence of Russia, Armenia and Georgia on each other continue.
