Deputy head of the "Armenian Eagles-United Armenia" Party dies in prison
On Saturday, January 26, Mger Egiazaryan, a deputy head of the "Armenian Eagles-United Armenia" Party, died in a Yerevan prison. He was holding a hunger strike against the fraud charges imputed to him.
Suddenly he felt bad and died in 20 minutes. An investigation has been initiated on this fact, the press service of the Criminal-Executive Department of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Armenia has announced.
Egiazaryan was arrested in last December on charges of fraud and money extortions from militaries. According to investigators, he lured money by promising military servicemen employment or career promotion, the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.
On December 5, 2018, Mger Egiazaryan went on a hunger strike, stating that he did not trust investigators, the "NEWS.am" reports.
"He decided to take this extreme step because of his criminal prosecution," said Ruben Melikyan, a former ombudsman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), who expects that the authorities will notify the public about how the arrest of Egiazaryan was justified, the "Panorama.am" reports.
