Azerbaijani militaries sent to Afghanistan and Southern Sudan

A group of Azerbaijani military servicemen has been sent to Afghanistan to participate in the "Resolute Support" Mission. Two other officers have left for Southern Sudan as observers in the UN peacemaking mission, says the website of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2018, at the request of the United States, Azerbaijan increased its military contingent in Afghanistan from 94 to 120 people. They have been involved in NATO operations in Afghanistan since 2002.

On January 23, two officers were also sent to Southern Sudan, where they will participate as observers in the peacemaking mission under the UN mandate, the "oxu.az" has reported.

On November 30, 2018, the Parliament of Azerbaijan adopted the bill on sending militaries to Southern Sudan. According to the law, in January 2019, Azerbaijan will send three officers and one observer to this African country.
