Editor-in-chief of "Bastainfo" website refuses to plead guilty in court

The indictment in the case of Mustafa Gadjibeili, the editor-in-chief of the oppositional website "Bastainfo.com" has been announced at a session of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. The advocate has treated the charges as unjustified.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the website "Bastainfo.com" was blocked after the publications about the attempted assassination of the head of Ganja; and on November 30, 2018, Mr Gadjibeili was accused of public appeals against the state, abuse of office and forgery.

For publication of electric power supply outages and the attempted assassination of the head of Ganja, 14 social network users were arrested. The Prosecutor's Office demanded to close a number of websites, including the "Bastainfo.com".

According to Gadjibeili, the prosecution claimed that two articles were posted on the website with the aim of "using the events in Ganja and Mingyachevir to sow chaos among citizens, disturb social stability and call for riots."

"The prosecution claims that three female residents of the Khatain District were scared after reading these articles," Mustafa Gadjibeili has explained.

Witnesses claimed at the trial that the information in the articles was reprinted from another media by the Gadjibeili's decision.

Also, investigators made claims against Gadjibeili for publishing a photo of the beaten Yunis Safarov, who was arrested on charges of attempting to assassinate the former head of Ganja.
