Azerbaijani activists stop hunger strike in support of blogger Mekhman Guseinov

The hunger strike held in the office of the "Musavat" Party was stopped after the Prosecutor's Office (PO) closed the case against Mekhman Guseinov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 21, three activists and at least five prisoners were still on hunger strike.

"The authorities have assured of the revision of the new case against Guseinov; and we believe that our action has achieved one of the goals," Zafar Akhmedov, the coordinator of the Centre for the Families of Political Prisoners, has explained.

According to his story, a total of 19 people participated in the hunger strike; Tofig Yagublu, a board member of the "Musavat" Party, held the longest hunger strike – for 12 days.

The political prisoners, who had joined the hunger strike, should also stop it, Mr Akhmedov believes.

The country's Penitentiary Service has again refuted any prisoners' hunger strikes.
