Rally in Baku demands to release of Guseinov

About 3000 people took part in the action organized by the opposition in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The demands to release the blogger Mekhman Guseinov and other political prisoners were voiced out at the rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 26, 2018, Mekhman Guseinov announced a dry hunger strike in the colony, where he was serving his term, in protest against the new criminal case opened against him.

The rally, sanctioned by the city authorities, was held on January 19 at the stadium of the sports and recreation complex of the Yasamal District of Baku. It was organized by the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan and supported by the "Musavat" and the "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) Parties.

Participants in the rally held photographs of political prisoners and posters calling to release them and fight against corruption.

During the rally, which lasted for two hours and ended by 5:00 p.m. local time, there were no serious violations of public order, the police have stated. About 2.800 people took part in it, says the website of the Chief Police Department of Baku.

Let us remind you that as a sign of solidarity with Mekhman Guseinov, several convicted activists have declared a hunger strike. Also, oppositionists are holding a hunger strike at the headquarters of the "Musavat" Party under the slogan "Freedom to Mekhman Guseinov and other political prisoners!"
