Chechnya's SC overturns verdict to convict for aiding militants

The case of a resident of Grozny, sentenced to eight years in a colony within the case of helping members of the armed underground, has been sent for revision by a new composition of the court.

The conviction of a resident of Grozny was passed by the Staropromyslovsky District Court of Grozny. According to the verdict, several years ago the man, at the request of the militants, found a hideout with money in the forest and handed over the money to militants for remuneration, an employee of the republic's prosecutor's office told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

On January 18, the SC of Chechnya overturned this verdict, explaining its decision by the fact that the above District Court had admitted, when considering the case, violations of criminal procedural legislation. The source did not specify the violations. According to his story, the case will be re-examined by the Staropromyslovsky District Court by another panel of judges.

The source also failed to specify the name of the defendant and the date of the first-instance court's judgement.
