Death toll of Tbilisi explosion reaches four

A domestic gas explosion occurred on January 16 at about 8:20 p.m. in a nine-storey building in the Didi Digomi District in the outskirt of Tbilisi.

The police have reported three dead. Later, the child hospitalized after the explosion died at hospital. Five children and one adult are still in the hospital.

The child hospitalized to the "Imedi" Clinic had a cardiac arrest. He was connected to the artificial respiration, but doctors could not save him, a clinic source said. "The four-year-old child was taken to the clinic in the state of clinical death – he had cardiac arrest and multiple skull fractures. The brain membrane was damaged. We restored the heart rhythm, but after half an hour the heart stopped; we failed to restore the heart rhythm again," the "Sputnik Georgia" quotes one of the doctors as saying.

All the house tenants have been evacuated; the house is de-energized. The remaining three casualties are adults, Teimuraz Kupatadze, the head of the Tbilisi Patrol Police, has stated.

Five children and one adult, who was saved by rescuers from under the rubbles after the explosion, are the victims. The man's condition is satisfactory; and only one child's traumas cause our concern, the "News-Georgia" quotes David Sergeyenko, the Minister of Public Health of Georgia, as saying.

January 17 has been announced a mourning day for the dead in Georgia.
