Ingush human rights defenders posthumously award activist Khashagulgov
The Ingush human rights NGO "Mashr" has awarded 12 diplomas to Laureates of the contest "Heroes of Civil Society". For the first time in eight years, the title of Laureate was awarded posthumously – to the activist Muslim Khashagulgov, killed in a special operation.
The contestants included participants of the rally against the agreement on the Ingush-Chechen border, civil society activists and members of public and human rights organizations, including activists of the "Committee against Torture" (CaT).
The main events of 2018 for Ingushetia were mass protests after the signing of an agreement with Chechnya on fixing the border. According to the agreement, an equivalent exchange of non-residential territories was held by the republics.
Muslim Khashagulgov was posthumously awarded a diploma in the nomination "For a special contribution to the protection of human rights and the development of civil society". The award was taken by his uncle Timur Kodzoev.
In the nomination "For the courage and manifestation of civil stand", the diploma was awarded to the co-chairs of the World Congress of the Ingush People, Akhmed Pogorov and Khasan Katsiev. In the nominations "For the peacekeeping activities", a member of the Ingush Committee for National Unity (ICNU), Akhmed Barakhoev, was awarded.
The contenders may not necessarily be residents of Ingushetia, explained Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the "Mashr". "People from any region can be awarded – everyone who defends the constitutional rights of citizens and is engaged in covering their problems," he said.
