Chechen family spends five hours at checkpoint in North Ossetia
Five residents of Chechnya, whose car was stopped by law enforcers at the entrance to Vladikavkaz, have complained about the nationality-based prejudiced attitude.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that late in the evening on January 3, a Chechen family heading for Georgia was detained at a checkpoint in North Ossetia. The detainees treated law enforcers' demands to subject their car to a special inspection as unjustified.
The family could leave the checkpoint only at 2:00 a.m., Malika Mazaeva, one of the detainees, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "A checkpoint employee very strongly urged us not to write an application to the prosecutor's office about him; and in order to justify his actions, he imposed a fine on us that we had no fire extinguisher and the car is equipped with a gas cylinder; and with that we parted. It's very unpleasant when there is a national factor in relations. We are all citizens of one country, but you are treated with bias only because you license number plate has the 95th region (Chechnya, – note of the "Caucasian Knot")," Ms Mazaeva has noted. According to her story, employees of the checkpoint did not inspect the car.
