Child hospitalized into intensive care unit after New Year shooting in Derbent

A three-year-old boy was taken to hospital in Derbent with a gunshot wound after he went with his parents to a New Year's fireworks, the Ministry of Public Health of Dagestan has reported. Instagram users have criticized gun owners for the rash use thereof.

The incident occurred during the festivities at night on January 1.

"The parents together with the boy came out to watch the New Year's fireworks. During the celebrations, one of the townspeople decided to shoot from a combat firearm. A stray bullet hit the child," the Dagestan Ministry of Public Health reported in the "minzdravrd" group on the Instagram on December 2.

According to the Ministry, the boy was delivered in the gravest condition to the central city hospital of Derbent; he is in a coma in the intensive care unit.

"Investigation of the incident is being conducted by law enforcers," says the Ministry's statement.

Social network users have condemned the person who opened fire at the holiday, as well as all the firearm owners, who shoot in public places.

"Owners of firearms, think again. Even when you shoot into the sky, the bullet always comes back," the user with nickname aidamirov_05 wrote.
