Makhachkala residents block road because of electricity problems

Makhachkala residents are outraged by electricity supply outages and started an endless protest action today. They would not let cars through the dwelling settlement of Shamkhal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February, residents of Makhachkala, including those of Shamkhal-Termen settlement, complained about frequent blackouts, noting that power engineers refer to the grid deterioration and the need of preventive maintenance.

On December 21, the "Chernovik" newspaper posted a video report about the protest action in Shamkhal on its YouTube channel. One of the protesters tells that locals have come to the building of the "Dagestani Grid Company" to demand explanations, but "bosses escaped and closed the doors."

"In Shamkhal, we have constant problems with electricity. People are very angry. We decided to block all the roads. <..> Until authorities come here, these roads will be blocked, and we'll stay here," another protester says into the camera. People around him confirm in chorus that they will stand to the end.
