Prisoner dies during a hunger strike in Gldani Prison
Giorgi Pasiashvili, a prisoner of the Gldani Prison, who was seeking to be released, died after a 40-day hunger strike.
A year ago, Giorgi Pasiashvili was arrested after injuring his neighbour. The man was serving his sentence at the penitentiary institution No. 8 in Tbilisi.
The prisoner demanded to be released, and he refused food and, later, drug treatment in protest, the "News-Georgia" reports today with reference to the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel.
The body of the deceased man was transported to the examination bureau, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2015, in western Georgia, five prisoners went on a hunger strike in the prison No. 2 in the city of Kutaisi to protest against their conviction. In May 2016, at the Gldani penitentiary institution No. 8 and at the Rustavi penitentiary institution no. 6, 55 people sentenced to life imprisonment also went on a hunger strike with the demand to mitigate their punishment.
