Activists demand to release Robert Kocharyan

Supporters of Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia, who was arrested on charges of overthrowing the constitutional order, gathered in the Republic Square in Yerevan and demand to release him from custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 15, the Cassation Court of Armenia annulled the decision of the Court of Appeal to release of Robert Kocharyan from custody. Kocharyan believes that the decision on his arrest was made under the pressure from the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The rally in support of Kocharyan was held on December 11 in central Yerevan; it was organized by the initiative group "Freedom to President", the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.

"The authorities are planting an atmosphere of fear; people are afraid of denunciations, and, therefore, many of them refused to come to the rally," the edition quotes Armen Minasyan, one of the organizers of the rally, who spoke there.

"The decision of the court to arrest him is nothing but settling personal accounts and manifests the death of justice," the TASS quotes the activist as saying.

The "Sputnik-Armenia" specifies that about one hundred Kocharyan's supporters took part in the protest action.
