Volgograd activists demand to stop military conflict with Ukraine
Several activists held solo pickets in Volgograd on December 2 demanding that the Russian authorities end the conflict with Ukraine because of the incident in the Kerch Strait and condemning the annexation of the Crimea.
"We demand from our government to end the war with Ukraine, conclude peace, and fulfil the Constitution and the laws of Russia, because the war with Ukraine is a shame for our country," Vladimir Telpuk, a picketer, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "The annexation of the Crimea contradicts the Russian Constitution. The Crimea is the territory of Ukraine."
Mr Telpuk has noted that solo pickets are the only opportunity for activists to express their opinions. "I see the goal of our solo pickets in that passers-by should know that there are people in our city who disagree with the actions of the current government," said the activist.
Olga Makarycheva, an activist, who stood with a poster "War with Ukraine is the madness of our authorities!", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that "the conflict began over the Crimea; now we are enemies to the whole world." "Young people support me; they approve my actions," she said. "I recollect all the time how our troops entered Czechoslovakia in 1968; and eight people went to Red Square to protest against it. They are an example for me. Maybe, we'll also become an example for anyone. I don't know what else I can do to stop the war."
