Russian SC upholds verdict for financing militants

The Supreme Court (SC) of Russia has refused to change the decision of the Rostov court which sentenced Anastasia Shilikhina, a resident of the Volgograd Region, and Yulduz Alieva, a native of Dagestan, on the charges of financing Syrian militants to five and six years of imprisonment, respectively, the FSB reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to an advocate of Yulduz Alieva, her guilt was not proven.

The young women themselves pleaded not guilty. On January 10, a witness for the prosecution stated that Yulduz Alieva and Anastasia Shilikhina were engaged exclusively in charitable activities.

Yulduz Alieva and Anastasia Shilikhina treated the verdict as too severe and filed a complaint to the Supreme Court (SC) against the verdict pronounced by the North-Caucasian Military Court, but the SC upheld it, reported the FSB Department for the Volgograd Region as quoted by the "Volga-Kaspiy".
