Dagestani activists express their concern over changes on map of Chechnya
The authorities of Chechnya should announce the reason for publishing the map of the republic, which included some territories of Dagestan, note activists.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 10, the "Novoe Delo" reported the Chechen authorities assigned some of Dagestani territories to Chechnya on a new map of the republic. After that, the map of Chechnya on the website of the republic's parliament was updated.
Chechens living in Chechnya and Dagestan treat the territory of the Kezenoi-Am Lake as the Chechen territory, since, according to the old legends, the Kezenoi-Am Lake is located entirely on the Chechen land, reports Gamid Gamzatov, the head of the national affairs committee of the Dagestani branch of the international human rights movement "Unity".
The inclusion of the Dagestani territories in Chechnya could have been caused by a technical error or lack of professionalism, explained Sira Saipov, a public figure in the Kazbek District.
The fact that it was the disputed territories which had been included in Chechnya spoke of the intentional actions, believes Milrad Fatullaev, the editor-in-chief of the RIA "Derbent".
According to him, the lack of reaction from the authorities of both republics to the error may indicate the interest of the Russian authorities in maintaining hot spots of tension in the Caucasus.
In Dagestan, many observers fear that the border between Chechnya and Dagestan will become a new subject of controversy, notes political analyst Eduard Urazaev.
