Shamil Abdulaliev's father demands from doctors to extract bullets from his son's leg

The health condition of Shamil Abdulaliev, who received gunshot wounds during a special operation in Nardaran in 2015, has worsened; he urgently needs a surgery, his father said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 25, 2017, Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity" Movement, and his 17 supporters, were sentenced to imprisonment for the terms ranging from 10 to 20 years. Shamil Abdulaliev received 14.5 years in prison. Azerbaijani human rights defenders called the defendants in the Nardaran case to be political prisoners.

"During a special operation in Nardaran, my son received three bullet wounds," Adil Abduraliev, Shamil's father, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"He still has two bullets in his leg. He has severe pains. His leg is actually inactive," he said.

According to his story, the treatment that Shamil receives in prison is ineffective, because the bullets must be extracted from the body.

Those accused in the Nardaran case has faced inhuman treatment, Elshan Gasanov, the head of the Centre for Monitoring Political Prisoners, believes.

"The wounded ones were not given the necessary medical care. Without letting the wounds heal, they were taken to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime. At the trial, they told how they, being wounded, were tortured," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to Mr Gasanov, "keeping in custody people with bullets in the body is contrary to the international humanitarian law and the laws of Azerbaijan."
