Makhachkala: journalists create alley in memory of their perished colleagues
On November 8, in Makhachkala, at the Press House, an alley was founded in memory of the fallen journalists. A total of 23 trees were planted, each dedicated to one of Russian journalists associated with Northern Caucasus. In the future, this place will be landscaped; and the alley itself will run to the seashore, Ali Kamalov, the Chairman of the Dagestani Union of Journalists, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, a monument to perished journalists will be installed in the centre of the alley. "In 2012, a presidential decree was issued in the republic to perpetuate the memory of fallen journalists. From that moment on, we began raising funds and announced a contest for the best project. We received six sketches and so far have selected one of them – a 16-meter-high stele shaped as a pen. The project is not yet ready. We are now in search of funds and unity in choosing the shape of the monument," Mr Kamalov has noted.
According to his version, the alley is dedicated not only to Dagestani journalists, but also to those who wrote a lot about the problems of Northern Caucasus – Anna Politkovskaya, Yuri Schekochikhin, Natalia Estemirova and Elvira Goryukhina.
