KChR residents commemorate deportation victims

On November 2, the city of Karachaevsk will held a march, at which the participants will help posters with names and photos of their relatives, who perished during the deportation of Karachay nationals in 1943. The photos will be placed on the Memory Wall in the Karachay-Cherkessian State University.

In the USSR, the deportation of Karachays began on November 2, 1943, when a total of 69,267 people were evicted. In total, 79,000 Karachay nationals were deported during the pre-war and the wartime. Most of the repressed people – over 43,000 people, including 22,000 children – perished on the way and in resettlement destinations.

The memorial march will move from the centre of Karachaevsk to the memorial to the victims of the deportation of the Karachay people, where a mourning rally is held annually, the TASS reports with reference to the organizing committee of the action.
