Residents of Shali resettled to outskirts after demolition of houses in centre

Members of 92 families who were evicted from their houses in the centre of Shali because of renovation, moved into new houses on the outskirts of the city. The authorities reported on the high quality of housing, but some residents of new buildings described them with scepticism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2017, the demolition of houses in Akhmat Kadyrov Street and adjacent Ivanovskaya Street began in Shali. Residents of Shali who had to leave their houses because of reconstruction, reported they had to rent housing at their own expense.

On April 7, members of 92 families who were evicted from the city centre during the reconstruction were granted new housing in a large settlement built on the outskirts of Shali, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an official from the city administration.

Residents of the new settlement expressed a wary and sceptical attitude towards new buildings.

"This is another 'fast construction,' as I call it. The foundation and wall works were carried out in winter, and everything was done for speed. So, the quality is appropriate, although facades looks nice and soundly. Rooms are wet. When it gets warm enough, we will have to air and dry the premises," one of the local residents told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
