In the 1st quarter of 2018, eight people fell victim to armed conflict in Chechnya

In the period from January 1 to March 31, 2018, at least eight people fell victim to the armed conflict in Chechnya. Of them, seven were killed, and one was wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

In January, two people fell victim to the armed conflict. As a result of an attack by a suspected member of the armed underground, a law enforcer was killed. A suspected member of the armed underground was killed when law enforcers tried to detain him. In February, no victims were registered. In March, six people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, five were killed and one was wounded. In the course of the special operations, five suspected members of the armed underground were killed. A policeman was injured as a result of an attack committed by a suspected militant.

The provided statistics cannot reflect the number of victims with the 100 percent accuracy. Not all information is included in the news reports. It is not always possible to check the reliability of the statements voiced by the law enforcement bodies. Besides, new facts about the events of the reporting period become often known after the statistics had been already published on the "Caucasian Knot".

In 2017, at least 50 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Chechnya. According to the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", other 25 civilians were executed without trial. Thus, according to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" and the data of the "Novaya Gazeta", in total, in the past year, 75 people fell victim in Chechnya, including 59 killed and 16 wounded. In 2016, in Chechnya, at least 43 people fell victim to the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, at least 27 were killed and 16 others were wounded.

In 2015, in Chechnya, at least 30 people fell victim to the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, at least 14 were killed and 16 others were wounded. In 2014, in the Chechen Republic, at least 117 people fell victim to the armed conflict, including at least 52 killed and 65 wounded. In 2013, at least 101 people fell victim to the armed conflict in the republic. Of them, at least 39 were killed and 62 others were wounded.

In 2012, 174 people fell victim to the armed conflict in the republic, including 82 killed and 92 wounded. In 2011, at least 201 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Chechnya. Of them, at least 95 people were killed and 106 others got injuries.
