Ramzan Kadyrov forbids allocating farmlands for construction

Ramzan Kadyrov has forbidden transferring agricultural lands to other categories. The leader of Chechnya has explained his decision by the need to extend the cultivated areas in Chechnya.

"I believe it is possible to transfer agricultural lands to another category in exceptional cases and only for the implementation of important investment projects," noted Ramzan Kadyrov as quoted by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The leader of Chechnya has explained his decision by saying that in recent years, the total area of agricultural lands in the republic had decreased. Besides, the authorities of the republic have the plans for the next five years to increase the cultivated areas in the region by 28,000-29,000 hectares.

The Chechen Ministry of Agriculture reported that over the past five years, about 17,850 hectares of farmland had been transferred to "different categories of lands." In general, the land plots were transferred to the category of land settlements and then allocated to residents for individual construction.

Reduction of farmland in the republic began under the Soviet ear, in the 1980s, local residents report.

Let us remind you that on September 26, Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov signed the agreement on securing the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia. Chechnya handed over to Ingushetia the farmlands of the former "Goragorsky" state-owned farm in the Nadterechny District. The lands handed over to the neighbouring republic were favourable for farming, residents of Chechnya complained.
