Pashinyan retains control over situation in Armenia after resignation

Nikol Pashinyan has resigned, thereby initiating the procedure of early parliamentary elections, since he is confident in the predictability of outcomes thereof, political analysts believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 16, the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced his resignation. On the same day, the government of Armenia resigned.

Nikol Pashinyan keeps the political situation under control, otherwise he would not resign, said Alexander Markarov, a political analyst.

"The most predictable scenario assumes that within two weeks the parliament will be dissolved and early elections appointed; and Pashinyan expects to win the parliamentary majority," Mr Markarov has noted.

However, he did not rule out some force-majeure event, but noted that there is hardly a political force that will dare confront the people.

Apart from the official authorities that he retains as acting Premier, Pashinyan also enjoys public confidence, Akop Badalyan, a political observer, has stated. He believes that the dissolution of the parliament will pass without any excesses; and Pashinyan will not have to call on his supporters to protest on the voting day.

Pashinyan is fully controlling the political situation, Grant Mikaelyan, a political analyst is sure.

The campaigning for the early parliamentary elections will be held from November 29 to December 14, while the voting day will be December 2 or 9.
