The awarding ceremony of the Free Media Awards in the field of the freedom of speech was held in Yerevan. Among those who received the award is the edition named "Chaikhana" (Teahouse) from Tbilisi.

The Free Media Awards for achievements in the sphere of independent journalism was initiated by two Funds engaged in supporting the freedom of speech and press: the Norwegian Fritt Ord and the German Die Zeit-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius.

The awards were given to representatives of the Saint Petersburg Internet newspaper "Fontanka", the media platform from Tbilisi "Chaikhana" (chai-khana.org) and the Internet edition "Belarusian Partisan".

The jury selected nominees from 33 media outlets of the countries of Southern Caucasus, Belarus and Russia, Ane Bonde, an adviser to the Norwegian Fund "Human Rights House", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her story, the jury chose the editions that publish unique stories about conflicts, the plight of people and historical facts that the authorities are trying to put into oblivion.

"The media platform 'Chaikhana' received the award for using innovative tools in materials from the countries of Southern Caucasus," Ms Bonde has stated.
