Photo show in Tbilisi reminds about expulsion of Georgian refugees from Abkhazia

Refugees from Abkhazia, who left their homeland 25 years ago, have shared their memories about the events of 1992-1993 at a photo exposition opened in Tbilisi.

The photo show "We remember", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the fall of Sukhumi, the capital of Abkhazia, was held at the Ilya Chavchavadze National Library of Georgia. A show of documentary photographs of the times of the war in Abkhazia in 1992-1993 was organized by the informal movement "MIG Apkhazeti", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The greater part of the exposition are the works of Nilton Malcolm, a reporter, who communicated with the refugees from Abkhazia-creators of the website "abkhazeti.ru", Erminet Grigoliya, the organizer of the exposition, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"When he learned that we are from Abkhazia, he himself contacted us and said that he had worked in Abkhazia," Mr Grigoliya has explained. Nilton Malcolm confessed that he "had nowhere met such cruelty and hatred for one's closest neighbours as he saw in Abkhazia," the organizer of the show has added.

The photos show episodes of shootouts, the exodus of refugees from Abkhazia, the execution of members of Abkhaz government, which occurred on the day of storming the building of the Supreme Council in Sukhumi 25 years ago.

"These are very painful photos; I seemed like having passed again through the circle of hell that I experienced during the war," Aza, a refugee from Sukhumi, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
