Victims of clashes in Sari Tag demand to punish law enforcers

The case on the use of violence by law enforcers against activists and journalists in the Yerevan Sari Tag District in is not closed; it is just suspended, therefore the work of identifying those guilty continues, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia has reported. The victims treat the investigators decision as unfair.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on July 30, 2016, in the Sari Tag District, demonstrators clashed with the police, during which journalists also suffered. On September 25, 2018, Andreas Gukasyan, the leader of the Constructive Party of Armenia, stated that investigators had stopped the case on the use of violence against activists and journalists by policemen for the absence of the accused persons.

However, on September 27, the SIS of Armenia reported that the inquiry into the use of violence against demonstrators in Yerevan in 2016 was not stopped but only suspended.

The journalists, who suffered during the clash in Sari Tag at night on July 30, 2016, intend to appeal against the decision to suspend the criminal case.

"The reason for suspending the criminal case is ridiculous: the accused persons are not known ... And this injustice occurs under the power of Nikol Pashinyan, and I am sure he knows about the case," Robert Ananyan, a journalist, wrote in his Facebook page.
