"Vayfond" head stops hunger strike against Chechen's extradition to Russia

Mansur Sadulaev, the head of the "Vayfond" Swedish charitable association, has stopped, after a deterioration of his health condition, the hunger strike announced on September 6 in protest against the decision of Bosnian authorities to extradite Akhmed Altamirov, an ethnic Chechen and a native of Ingushetia, to Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 6, Mansur Sadulaev held a solo picket at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Stockholm, demanding to prevent the extradition of Akhmed Altamirov to Russia. On the same day, Mansur Sadulaev went on a hunger strike in protest against extradition.

In Russia, Akhmed Altamirov is accused of involvement in Syrian militants. The authorities and the Court of Appeal of Bosnia and Herzegovina found his extradition possible, since the Russian party has guaranteed non-application of torture against him.

"Mansur Sadulaev has interrupted his hunger strike at doctors' insistence," Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a Chechen blogger, wrote in his Facebook account on September 10. Tumso is also on the wanted list for his alleged links with Syrian militants.

On September 10, problems with Sadulaev's health were also reported by Ilnur Aminov, another Facebook user. "Mansur's condition became critical; and we were forced to call an ambulance again. He was immediately hospitalized," he has noted.
