Armenian wine growers block road to Yerevan
The cognac factories in the Armavir Region have drastically dropped the purchase prices for grapes, local farmers assert. In protest, they blocked the highway to Yerevan today.
According to farmers, the Armavir Branch of the Yerevan Cognac Factory reduced the purchase price for grape down to 120-130 drams (0.25-0.27 US dollars), that is, to its prime cost.
Gagik Gabrielyan, Vice Governor of Armavir Region, said that the government is already holding a sitting with representatives of cognac factories.
However, factory bosses would not make concessions, Karen Sisakyan, a protester, has informed.
If the problem is not solved, farmers are ready to arrange a sitting picket rights on the roadway, the edition named "Panorama" referring to Mr Sisakyan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2015-2017, Armenian wine growers repeatedly protested, demanding repayment of debts from grape purchasers. Farmers blamed the authorities for the situation.
