Activists in Yerevan hold action against LGBT propaganda

Today, in front of the German Embassy in Yerevan, a group of activists held an action against LGBT propaganda and for the preservation of the traditional family. Activists called not to condemn residents of the Armenian village for their clash with LGBT activist until the end of the investigation.

The action against LGBT propaganda was organized by the initiative group "In the name of the nation: the step of everyone". According to organizers, about ten people took part in it.

Activists held posters with inscriptions "LGBT community has no right to become mother", "No to LGBT", "Yes to the traditional family", etc. They noted that the initiative group was founded after the "known cases in the village of Shurnukh, Syunik Region of Armenia, when an incident occurred of villagers with LGBT activists."

On August 3, according to the report of the Armenian Police, a message arrived that "in the village of Shurnukh, 30 villagers attacked nine LGBT activists, beat them up and drove them from the village." The participants of the clash were brought to the police station; an examination was appointed. On August 7, the US Embassy to Armenia condemned the incident, accusing villagers of attacking LGBT activists.

The participants of the today's action noted that Richard Milss, the US Ambassador to Armenia, violated the presumption of innocence by accusing Shurnukh villagers of attacking LGBT activists and applying violence to them, while the investigation is still underway.
