Media: at least five cases of torture fixed in 2018 in Southern Russia
In 2018, at least five persons were tortured in Southern Russia, including a 16-year-old teenager. As a result, one person died, the "Meduza" writes. According to the edition, this year, at least 58 cases of torture were registered in Russia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this July the UN Committee Against Torture pointed to problems with the investigation of torture in Northern Caucasus.
There are no reliable statistics on torture, as people are afraid to complain, the "Meduza" notes.
"At least 15 people were tortured with electric current; 10 had their heads covered with plastic bags, were not allowed to breathe in other ways," the edition writes.
At least two cases of torture were fixed in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD): the beating up of Ibragim Aliev on June 8 in Ingushetia, and kidnapping and beating up of Kemal Kuscheterov on July 3 in Karachay-Cherkessia.
