Vice-president of Abkhazia resigned after brawl

Vitaly Gabniya, a vice-president of Abkhazia, said that he leaves the post, having treated the brawl he took part in as an example of inefficiency of the republic's law enforcement system. He has also warned about a possible aggravation of the situation in Abkhazia.

According to the vice-president, last weekend he negotiated with a group of people; and one of them struck him.

"I have to leave to defend my honour; it has nothing to do with politics," the "Sputnik-Abkhazia" quotes Mr Gabniya as saying.

According to his story, the offender came up to him from behind and struck his with a cup on the head. In response, the politician twice punched his opponent.

He has also noted that the attacker on him went unpunished because of the "weakness of the law enforcement system."

Vitaly Gabniya has suggested that the attack was organized by supporters of the coup d'état, adding that after the political crisis of 2014, "the authorities have failed to cope with many things."
