Prosecution states Martynov's plans to blow up a synagogue

Maxim Martynov, the defendant in the case of preparing a terror act in the Novocherkassk shopping centre, had initially planned, together with his accomplice, to blow up a synagogue, but later decided to change the object of the terror act, the prosecutor asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 14, the North-Caucasian District Military Court started a trial of the case against Maxim Martynov, a resident of the Rostov Region, who, according to the prosecution, had planned to commit, together with his friend Ruslan Tambiev, a terror act in one of Novocherkassk shopping centres under the motive of hatred towards Jews.

According to the prosecution, Martynov is an adherent of the Sunni trend in Islam and is convinced that "the society and the state are governed by a secret community ... that oppresses Muslims."

According to the prosecution, in the period from December 2016 to April 2017, Martynov and Tambiev conspired to commit a terror act in the synagogue located in the Rostov Region, but later they abandoned the idea to commit a terror act there, and began looking for another object.

Martynov offered Tambiev to blow up the "Arbat" Shopping and Entertainment Centre in Novocherkassk.

Their plan failed, the prosecution has concluded, as "the explosive devices were seized; and they themselves were detained."
