Advocate specifies reason for Dudurkaeva's arrest

The arrest in Istanbul of Seda Dudurkaeva, a daughter of the former head of the Chechen Branch of the Federal Migration Service (FMS), was caused by a suspicion of using a false passport, and not by links with Syrian militants, her advocate has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 20 it became known that Seda Dudurkaeva, a daughter of Asu Dudurkaev, a former head of the Chechen FMS Branch, who had left for Syria several years ago, was detained in Istanbul on July 4 on suspicion of having links with the "Islamic State" (IS) (earlier – the ISIL), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court.

Her advocate Atanur Demir said that in Turkey, Seda Dudurkaeva will see her indictment in September-October.

"The Istanbul court has started an investigation into Seda's alleged membership in the IS*, but so far there are no charges: the prosecution is collecting evidence. If serious evidence is found, then the case will be sent to the court. If not, she will be released," said the advocate.

According to the advocate, the reason for Dudurkaeva's arrest was in her Ukrainian passport. Recently, she has received Ukrainian citizenship; and while her alleged involvement in the IS* was considered, the prosecutor suspected that her Ukrainian passport was false – this is the reason for her arrest, not the involvement in the IS*," Atanur Demir has explained.

* "Islamic State" (IS, earlier – ISIL) is a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court.
