Defence of Manvel Grigoryan appeals against his arrest

The state of health of Manvel Grigoryan, a former MP and the head of the Armenian "Erkrapa" Union of Volunteers, is worsening day by day; and his life is under threat, the defence explained its petition to change the measure of the defendant's freedom restraint.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 16 this year, Manvel Grigoryan, a retired general and an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was detained on suspicion of illegal arms circulation. On June 17, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Manvel Grigoryan had appropriated humanitarian aid intended for the army; and on June 20, during a search in the MP's house, cartridges and firearms were found. Grigoryan was arrested for two months. In July, his defence announced deterioration in his health.

According to Arsen Mktrchyan, an advocate, his client "is kept in conditions that are undesirable for a person with such serious illnesses."

The advocate asserts that Grigoryan's health condition is worsening every day.

Let us remind you that Karen Grigoryan, Manvel's son and a former Mayor of the city of Echmiadzin, was accused of large-scale embezzlement, while Nazik Amiryan, Manvel's wife, was accused of illegal storage of weapons and explosives.
