Special and counterterrorist operations
On July 26, in Derbent, law enforcers cordoned off a five-storey house not far from the cognac factory and brought tenants out of it. It was reported that two suspected militants were hiding in one of the apartments of the cordoned-off house, and the law enforcers entered into negotiations with them. Later, sources from the law enforcement bodies reported that a search "involving OMON (riot police) fighters" was conducted in one of the apartments of a five-storey building. Local residents believed that was a special operation to cordon off the militants. According to the law enforcement bodies, in Derbent, special measures were taken as part of an investigation into a criminal case against a resident of the cordoned-off house, and the investigation was not associated with members of the armed underground.
Detentions
At night on July 25, the on duty department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) got a message that a 34-year-old resident of the Ekazhevo village was brought to the Ingush Republican Clinical Hospital in Nazran with bodily injuries. According to the victim, at about 9:00 p.m., he was kidnapped by about 15 unidentified people in masks, armed with unidentified guns, from a yard of an apartment building in the city of Magas. Two residents of the Barsuki village in the Nazran District were detained on suspicion of kidnapping. They were brought to a police station in Magas. The detainees' houses were searched and law enforcers seized items banned in civil circulation, the MIA reported.
