Court leaves Abdusamad Gamidov under arrest

Today, the Moscow City Court has dismissed a complaint about extension of the arrest for Abdusamad Gamidov, the former chair of the Dagestani government, and three other defendants, accused of large-scale embezzlement of funds from the budget.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 27, the Court pronounced the decision to extend until September 30 the arrest of former Prime Minister Abdusamad Gamidov, his former deputies Shamil Isaev and Rayudin Yusufov, as well as Shakhabas Shakhov, the former Minister of Education for Dagestan.

The top-ranking officials are charged with fraud on more than 100 million roubles allocated to project in the social sphere and investment programme in Dagestan. None of the defendants pleaded guilty.

Abdusamad Gamidov, Shamil Isaev, Rayudin Yusufov, and Shakhabas Shakhov will be kept under arrest until September 30, the RAPSI (Russian Agency of Legal and Judicial Information) reports with reference to the press service of the Moscow City Court.

Earlier, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) released a video, demonstrating numerous luxury goods in the houses of Dagestani officials. "The biggest houses in the republic are owned by officials. And sometimes their houses are built in the water protection zone," said Russian General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika after his February trip to Dagestan.
