Journalist Afghan Sadygov detained in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Sadygov was detained 1.5 months after his release. At the moment, his relatives are not aware of his whereabouts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 23, Afghan Sadygov, the founder and editor of the social and political website "Azel.tv", who was sentenced for attacking a woman at a reception of an official, was released after 1.5 years of imprisonment. On the first day at large, Afghan Sadygov, recognized as a political prisoner, announced his intention to continue his journalistic activities.

On July 6, Afghan Sadygov was detained in the Jalilabad District, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by Sevindj Sadygova, a journalist's wife. According to the woman, policemen took her husband away with them to Baku.

The Afghan Sadygov's relatives believe he was brought to the Chief Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). However, officials from the MIA's Department told the woman that her husband was not at their place.

Sevindj Sadygova associates the arrest of her husband with his activities in social networks. "After his liberation, Afghan continued to criticize the authorities. He did not succeed in launching the website. He wrote a lot on social networks, on the Internet, and criticized the country's leaders," the woman said.
