Cuban activists join campaign in support of Titiev

Activists in Cuba demanded to release Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", the Centre has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since January 11 this year, Oyub Titiev is under arrest on charges of possessing marijuana. The rights defender asserts that the drugs were planted on him by a law enforcer and lodged an application to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) demanding to bring this agent to justice. On July 4, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) examined the opinion of the Human Rights Council on Titiev's case and demanded to check the circumstances of Oyub's detention.

Cuban activists have supported Titiev and demanded his release, the HRC "Memorial" stated in his Telegram channel.

The posted photo shows five persons wearing T-shirts depicting Titiev behind bars and hashtags #SaveOyub #SaveMemorial. "With their gestures, they show the letter 'L' – Libertad (freedom)," says the message of the HRC "Memorial".

The case of Oyub Titiev was forwarded for consideration to the Shali City Court. The session scheduled for July 3 was postponed because of advocates' request to hold the trial in another region. According to the HRC "Memorial", on July 5, the Supreme Court of Chechnya will consider the request and the issue of extending Titiev's arrest.
