Former OMON commander disappears in Chechnya after detention
On June 16, unidentified law enforcers took away a former OMON (riot police) commander in Chechnya; since then, his whereabouts is unknown, sources report.
He came to Chechnya to his relatives for the Uraza-Bayram holiday. "In the evening on June 16, his car was stopped by some armed agents in the outskirts of the village of Proletarskoe in the Grozny District, who demanded to follow them. We don’t know where he is now and what happened to him, "a source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
In the period between the two Chechen Wars, the missing former commander was in charge of guarding the complex of governmental buildings in Grozny and was considered to be one of the close associates of Aslan Maskhadov. In 2003, he laid down his arms under the guarantees of the former head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov; and for the next few years held senior positions in the power structures under Akhmat Kadyrov and Alu Alkhanov. His career was over, when the republic was headed by Ramzan Kadyrov. According to some reports, in recent years, the former OMON commander lived in Pyatigorsk.
