Manvel Grigoryan's supporters block street in Yerevan

Activists of the "Yerkrap" Union of Veterans have blocked traffic outside the building of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia, demanding to release Manvel Grigoryan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Manvel Grigoryan, a retired general, the head of the "Yerkrap" and an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was detained on June 16 on suspicion of illegal arms circulation. On the same day, a protest began in Yerevan, against his arrest. His supporters assured that they would not stop the protest until the MP is released.

Today, like yesterday, Grigoryan's supporters blocked Nalbandyan Street by sitting on the asphalt.

Today, the RPA's parliamentary faction issued a statement on Grigoryan's arrest, accusing the new authorities of the country of using politically-motivated repressions. According to the RPA, Grigoryan's rights were violated at detention.

"The detention of Manvel Grigoryan, a hero of Artsakh, is another signal about the use of the state repressive machinery. [...] We will monitor that the investigation into this case is conducted in full and impartial manner; and we will fight for the defence of Grigoryan's rights," the "Sputnik-Armenia" quotes the statement today.
