Authorities report about 20,000 strong rally in Grozny on the Day of Russia

The Mayoralty of Grozny has stated that about 20,000 people took part in the rally held on June 12 in the Chechen capital on the occasion of the Day of Russia. Last year, the Day of Russia in Grozny was celebrated by 16,000 people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that main participants were students and youth activists.

"The rally was held in a festive atmosphere and ended with folk festivals," the Mayoralty has noted.

"Since June 9, law enforcement bodies have been working in the reinforced regime. This is caused by the arrival of the Egyptian national football team, the celebration of the Day Russia, and the upcoming Uraza-Bayram," the Grozny police have explained.

Part of the participants in the mass de-fasting action (Uraza-Bayram) and the rally on the Day of Russia in Grozny complained about compulsion to attend the events.
