Leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan open TANAP gas pipeline

The opening ceremony of the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP), through which gas from Azerbaijan will be delivered to Turkey and further Europe, was held on June 12 in the Turkish city of Eskisheher.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported on May 29, Baku hosted the ceremony of launching the "Southern Gas Corridor" (SGC).

Russia offered Azerbaijan to buy the entire volume of gas from the Shakhdeniz gas field, but Baku preferred to support the SGC project and signed with Ankara an agreement on the construction of the TANAP.

It is planned to start deliveries of commercial gas to Turkey on June 30, the "Report" states with reference to Saltuk Dyuziola, the Director General of the TANAP.

The first gas through the TANAP will come to Turkey in 2018; and Europe will receive Azerbaijani gas in 2020, Ilham Shaban an Azerbaijani expert and the head of the Oil Research Centre named "Caspian Barrel", had suggested earlier.
