Pashinyan states NKR's right to run talks with Azerbaijan

Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, has stated at the session of the parliament that the talks on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict are inefficient, unless one of the conflicting parties – the authorities of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) – take part in them, the TASS reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 8, 2018, the Armenian Parliament approved the programme proposed by the new government led by Nikol Pashinyan.

Mr Pashinyan has noted that many people treat this position in the talks as innovative; however, this approach, he said, contains nothing new.

"This is exactly the case when every new is a well-forgotten old. Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) was a full-fledged party to the conflict; and this was confirmed at the 1994 Budapest Summit of the OSCE. Until 1998, the talks were held in this particular format," the Premier has explained, noting that he can not negotiate on the Karabakh conflict settlement on behalf of the NKR's people.

"I have no such right; and I have neither legal nor moral justification for running talks on behalf of the NKR," the Armenian Prime Minister has stated.
