Saratov activists demand to release Oyub Titiev

In Saratov, participants of a picket organized by the "Strategy 6" called on the authorities to release political prisoners, including Chechen rights defender Oyub Titiev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 31, in Grozny, the court extended until July 9 the term of arrest of Oyub Titiev, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny. According to the defence, the Oyub Titiev's case can appear in court in mid-June, when the FIFA World Cup starts in Russia.

Oyub Titiev has been under arrest since January 11 on charges of possessing marijuana. He claims that the drug was planted on him by a law enforcer.

"On June 6, 2018, in the Saratov city centre, there was a new collective picket organized by the 'Strategy 6' in support of Russian political prisoners," wrote in Facebook Anton Khvostov, a participant of the picket, the head of the Saratov regional public organization "Centre of Social, Legal and Environmental Initiatives".

According to Anton Khvostov, at the picket he delivered a speech in support of Oyub Titiev.

The picket in Saratov in support of Oyub Titiev was also reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". "Saratov supports us," reports a message in the official Telegram channel of the HRC "Memorial".
