HRC "Memorial" announces first night of the play about Oyub Titiev

The premiere of the play "Oyub" will take place on June 13 in the Moscow office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 31, the court extended Oyub Titiev's arrest until July 9.

Oyub Titiev, a Chechen rights defender and the head of the Grozny office of the HRC "Memorial", is under arrest since January 11 on charges of possessing marijuana. He claims that the drug was planted on him by a law enforcer.

The play about Oyub Titiev was created by Yulia Aug, a stage director, Anna Dobrovolskaya, a playwright, Dmitry Vlasik, a composer, Olga Kovalyova, a painter, and actors of the "Theatre.doc".

The premiere of the play will take place at 7:00 p.m. Moscow time on June 13 in the Moscow office of the HRC "Memorial" at 5/10 Karetny Ryad, the HRC has reported today.

"Oyub was detained on his way from Kurchaloi to Grozny; and for the last few months he is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Grozny. It's hard to imagine a less suitable place for a man of 60, who loves sports, salt nuts, his friends and the sea. But Chechen authorities believe that this is the right place for you, because you are a rights defender, who had headed in Chechnya the work of the HRC 'Memorial' for the last 9 years, of one of the last human rights organizations still working in the republic," says the message about the play, posted on the website of the HRC "Memorial".
