Law enforcers report liquidation of extremist grouping in Karachay-Cherkessia

Eleven persons detained in Karachay-Cherkessia were adherents of the organization "At-Takfir Val-Hijra"*, a law enforcement source announced on May 24.

According to the source, when inspecting ten houses and garages, law enforcers found extremist materials and firearms. All the members of the grouping were detained, including its three leaders. Under law enforcers' version, members of the grouping extorted money from entrepreneurs.

"A Makarov pistol, a revolver, a gas pistol, adapted to fire live ammunition, a "Saiga" carbine, 17 titles of extremist religious literature, as well as 25 CDs with extremist materials were confiscated," the RIA "Novosti" quoted the source on May 24.

The operation was conducted by employees of the republic's FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) and MIA (Ministry of Internal Affairs) in several dwelling settlements of Karachay-Cherkessia, the "Interfax" reports referring to its informed source.

* The organization has been recognized as extremist and banned in Russia by the court.
